Fall Knit Mock Wrap Dress: New Look 6301 view A

Dresses are my most favorite clothing to wear.  I feel more feminine,  lady-like, and dare I say sexy in them. Since I work in an office environment, I can wear them as often as I like.

Well it's Fall now and the temperature is starting to drop. I'm not ready for mostly pants yet, but I will add more clothes with 3/4 or long sleeves to the mix. But for the most part, every Fall/Winter I just wear my Spring/Summer clothes with a cardigan, jacket, and/or coat. Well Florida cold isn't real cold anyway.

My first Fall garment is New Look 6301 view A, the mock wrap knit dress with flared skirt.

I have so many wrap dress patterns, but this is my favorite thus far. I love that the wrap crossover is very modest (no cami/tank top underneath required) and a full skirt to balance my bust.

I also like the extra wide ties that crisscross in the back.

Up next: McCalls 6988. Already cut and ready to sew.

McCalls 6559 _Maxi Dress

I finally got around to making my daughter a maxi dress.  Oh my, it's really nice not having to do a full bust adjustment on knits for her. 99% of patterns I make for myself requires a bust adjustment.

I ordered 5 yd. of this beautiful ity knit fabric several months ago from lowpricefabrics.com.  I had this bright idea to put the print on the side, but with it being Spring I really wish I had used more of the print. On the other hand, I still love the dress and since she wears it a lot, I'm guessing she loves it too.

Simplicity 1425 The Pleated Peplum Top

I've been waiting on a Simplicity pattern sale, so I could run out and get this pattern S1425. Last week hobby lobby had it for $1. And yes I bought more patterns than I need. Whatever the Summer 2014 patterns are out now and I'll patiently wait on another sale.

Right now I have a love for Peplum tops. Simplicity 1425 was fairly easy but I seem to have a habit of fitting while I sew, which slows down my productivity. I probably tried on that top about ten times between sewing it. View C of the pattern has three buttons for the closure, but with my extra fluff  I decided to mark two additional button placements. The pulling I saw, wasn't a good look and since I used a stable knit I omitted the buttons and sewed it shut.

The pattern directions are pretty good. However I thought there was an error with the directions for the strap yoke and armhole binding. Due to my confusion I skipped that section and finished it last.

My favorite part of this top are the pleats. I like how the pleats line up so nicely with the princess seams. The decided to use my stash of Ponte de Roma fabric from Joanns until I order some cotton lawn. I plan to make another one for the upcoming Florida heat.

The prefer peplums with skirts on me. The animal print double knit skirt was made last year using OOP New look 6164. I purchased the fabric from Fabric mart.

Just more pics.

McCalls 3830_Skirt

Pattern Description: Straight Skirt has front and back darts, back zipper, and faced waist

 Pattern Sizing: 16 -22

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? Very easy

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? The only thing I dislike, was having to ease skirt top section into a smaller faced waist band which created a few puckers. But I think that was just me.

Fabric Used: Moleskin

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: added 1" length to view D for my desired length.

Would you sew it again? I already made another one

Would you recommend it to others? Yes

Conclusion: I love fast projects.
